Buying a house can be daunting.  With a mortgage to arrange, a survey to organise and a solicitor to appoint, choosing the right service provider can seem like a minefield.   So, who do you choose? 

With so many mortgage advisers, solicitors and law firms available, it’s difficult to know where to start.  Simply searching the internet or skimming the yellow pages will provide plenty of company contact details, but how do you know if they will provide a good service?  Here are a few pointers to help you decide who to employ when buying property:

  • Ask friends and relatives – Recommendation is always a good endorsement.
  • Trust in the brand – A large well known company is likely to have been, and continues to be, successful in its business area – this won’t have been possible without good customer service.  It’s always good to know you have the security of working with a strong brand and reviews of their service are likely to be easy to find.
  • Work with your Estate Agent – Love them or loath them, estate agents are key in helping you buy your new home.  Don’t underestimate the importance of their relationship with good quality industry contacts.  They will be able to recommend service providers that work with their other customers and who are committed to helping progress your purchase through to completion.
  • Look out for Awards – It’s always worth keeping an eye out for industry awards.  The Estate and Letting Agents Awards, The Negotiator Awards, and the Mortgage Finance Gazette Awards, are all industry award logos to look out for.
