Npower has announced that it is to increase its tariffs in response to an increase in the wholesale price, adding as much as £133 to an average gas and electricity bill. It is the fifth company to announce an increase, putting more pressure on cash-strapped families.
This leaves the only other large energy company – EDF energy (who has yet to announce rises in its tariffs).
Rises in energy bills (which could also have implications for inflation) have become commonplace, with many consumers questioning increases – especially in light of the massive profits the energy companies have announced.
Although lower than Npower’s competitors, its electricity and gas rates will still rise by 7.2 percent and 15.7 percent respectively.
