The Bank of England’s £80bn Funding for Lending Scheme (FLS), which gives lenders access to cheaper finance, helped mortgage lending reach an 11-month high in October.

Mortgage availability increase over summer
Mortgage lending overcame gloomy forecasts for little change, with the overall availability of secured credit to households rising “significantly” over the summer months.
Mortgage lending falls by 4% in August
Mortgage lending conditions remained tight in August, despite the launch of the government’s Funding for Lending scheme, designed to offer low-cost finance to banks on the provision that they pass these savings on to customers.
